10 Things to Avoid When Building Your Home Theater

Movie nights are the best nights. With advances in technology, you can enjoy a cinematic experience in the comfort of your own home theater.

Here are ten common mistakes to avoid when building your home theater.

Don’t forget to do your research. Read customer reviews and Consumer Reports. Compare home theater products before you buy.

Don’t pick the wrong room. Not all rooms are built equally when it comes to housing your home theater. Pick a room without windows that’s square or rectangular.

Don’t mount your screen too high. Keep your television lower than eight feet when mounting it. This will ensure that no one strains their neck while watching!

Don’t place furniture too far away. Furniture should be 8-10 feet away from your screen for the ideal viewing experience.

Don’t skimp on speakers. Sound quality is as important as what you’re watching. Make sure to choose the speakers that best fit the size of your home theater.

Don’t hide the speakers. Make sure your speakers aren’t hidden by pieces of furniture. While it may be temping to cover them up for cleaner visual appeal, the sound will suffer.

Don’t forget a power conditioner.  A power conditioner will prevent potential interference caused by overloading your electrical system.

Don’t cut corners on connection. Prioritize audio and video installation to make sure you are using the right wiring and settings.

Don’t make things too complicated. Make sure you choose a system that everyone in your family can operate. Don’t let it get too confusing!

Don’t forget the snacks. Popcorn, candy, soda—it’s not a true movie night without them!

In this day and age, advances in technology develop at a lightning pace. With new technology being introduced daily, it can be challenging to keep up with all of the new bells and whistles!

Here’s what you need to know:

Home Automation Installation Howell NJ

Home automation refers to an electronic system that connects all of your household devices. It has actually existed for many years to help homeowners and renters control the lighting in their homes.

In the past few years, technology has advanced to the point of being able to connect not only lighting, but also home entertainment systems, surveillance equipment and heating and cooling systems. This means that you can control most aspects of your home at the touch of a button on your smartphone or tablet.

Home automation systems not only provide you and your family with convenience, but they also provide vital safety services. If you are away from your home, you can check in on your smartphone via security cameras. Connect your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, and you’ll know right away when your home needs emergency attention.

Energy savings is another huge benefit of installing a home automation system in your home. You can better track your energy usage and adjust the temperature whether you are at home or at work! This translates to significant savings on your monthly utility bill.

Home automation installation may seem daunting, but with the help of knowledgeable technicians, your home will be connected in no time at all! Simply put, home automation makes your home more fun, safe and efficient!

The Basics of Setting Up Wireless Networking at Home

Setting up a home wireless network can be intimidating. Here are helpful hints to set up wireless networking in your home.

Step One: Purchase a router. Visit a local electronics store, such as Best Buy, Staples or Radio Shack. Alternatively, a router may have been included from your Internet provider when you signed up for service.

Step Two: Place your router near where most people will use it, to maximize wireless coverage. If your house is big, one router may not be enough.

Step Three: Plug in your router. Once the router is turned on, look for it on your computer’s wireless network list. (Hint—this list can usually be accessed by clicking the wireless symbol of curved lines extending outward in a pie slice shape. Or the option may come up automatically.)

Step Four: Set up your router. Take the cable out of the router packaging and plug it into one of the four ports (but NOT the ones that say Internet or WAN.) Review the router instructions to find the router’s website. Visit that site to change the name of your network.

Step Five: Set your network password. Go to Wireless Security and turn on WEP encryption. Generate a password that’s hard to guess to make sure that no one is using your router that you don’t want to be.

Step Six: Connect to the internet. Take the Ethernet cable from your cable or DSL modem and insert it into the router port labeled Internet or WAN. Unplug your modem from power, wait 1-2 minutes before plugging it in again, and you should be all set!
